Mending the Motocross Champion by Jean C. Gordon

Romance Book

Book reviews are subjective. I tend to rate books not according to how “perfect” they are, seem to be, or are said to be in general but rather to how perfect they are to me. I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dana VanAlstyne wasn’t the only physical therapist who could get him in shape for the race… She was just the only one he wanted.

Dana has been keeping her life chock-full of physical therapy work and church activities ever since she and Mac split up. And Mac has been rising in fame and fortune as a champion motocross racer, but a medical condition has him privately facing what could be a premature end to his career. He’s looking to have one more chance on the track, and one more chance with Dana, in Mending the Motocross Champion by author Jean C. Gordon.

This is a novel that thrives on its backstory, but it’s not the kind of backstory that’s explained all at once. It unfolds at the pace of the present love story, gradually adding significance to Dana’s and Mac’s thoughts and actions. Their layered history makes their relationship all the more interesting.

There were some moments past the halfway mark where it felt to me like the story was coasting, though not exactly lagging. But ultimately, the backstory (which leads to a precious and crucial revelation at the end) helped to make up my favorite scene of the novel.

Other fans of Christian romance with second chances should enjoy this opening of the Team Macachek series.
