Book Review Requests

As a book reviewer, I currently accept a limited number of review requests for fiction reads that are mild to moderate in content. However, I do not participate in review-for-review exchanges with other authors. See my Book Review Requests page for further information.

Requests to Review My Books

As an author, I’m happy to provide ebook review copies of my books to honest book reviewers and bloggers. However, I do not participate in review-for-review exchanges with other authors. Find further information under “For Book Reviewers and Bloggers” on my Stay Updated page.

Book and Film Reviews and Ratings

As book and film reviews are subjective, I tend to rate books and films not according to how “perfect” they are, seem to be, or are said to be in general but rather to how perfect (or not) they are to me. In addition to posting on my blog, I review and/or rate most of the books I read and all the films I watch on Goodreads and Letterboxd.

I often can’t fit all of the reasons why I liked or disliked a book or film in a review, so I try to point out my main reasons. Ratings are not included in my blog reviews for books I did not finish. If an author, publicist, etc. requests that I post a review of a book I did not finish on a site that requires a rating, I rate the book based on the portion I completed, which I note in the review.

My book ratings are based on the Goodreads scale:

5 Stars = It was amazing!

4 Stars = I really liked it!

3 Stars = I liked it!
2 Stars = It was okay.
1 Star = I didn’t like it.

My film ratings are similarly based and include half stars. The ratings for my Online Book Club reviews, for which 4 stars is the maximum, may differ from the ratings I post for the same books on Goodreads, due to the different scale.

Blog Comments

I’m passionate about posting on this site, and I welcome interested readers of my blog to respectfully share their thoughts and opinions on the posts here. With that said, I reserve the right to moderate the comments. Comments that include multiple links or profanity may automatically be held in moderation mode for me to review.

Also, while a commenter may have a valid product or cause to share, it’s bad form to use commenting on someone else’s blog as a chance for free advertising/promotion of a product, service, ministry, etc. without the blogger’s permission or request. Comments on my site that include unsolicited advertising may be deleted or otherwise edited to remove promotional blurbs or bios. However, if I specifically ask for suggestions of products, services, etc. in a blog post or a reply, I’ll welcome promotional comments that are relevant to my request.

Product Disclosure

If I have received a complimentary product for the purpose of an honest review, I’ll state that at the top of the review.

Blog Giveaways

A specified version of the following giveaway terms will accompany each open giveaway on my blog:

Additional Giveaway Terms

If the number of eligible entrants meets or exceeds the number of prizes, all prizes will be awarded. My blog readers and visitors can enter giveaways by commenting on the related posts, and winners are determined via random.org. In the event that an entrant participates in two or more giveaways that end at the same time, or when an entrant has requested more than one prize in the same giveaway, that entrant will be eligible to win only one prize at that time, unless the number of prizes is greater than the number of entrants. I make a good faith effort to send notifications and prizes in a timely fashion, but I am not responsible for any notifications or prizes that may be inhibited, lost, delayed, or damaged as a result of website or email unavailability, shutdowns, or malfunctions, incorrect email or physical mailing addresses, or problems through the postal service. Giveaway Privacy

When my blog readers and visitors submit their email addresses to comment on my blog, I do not share those email addresses, except in the case of passing on an address to a third party who may be offering his/her own giveaway prize through my blog. Giveaway entrants may be given the option of joining a group or email list of mine (e.g., to receive advance review copies of my upcoming books), but those who do not opt-in will not be solicited with further promotional emails from me. The names or nicknames of giveaway winners will be announced on my blog after a giveaway ends, but only as the winners themselves have publicly posted their names or nicknames upon entering the giveaway. I will not share the mailing addresses giveaway winners submit to receive their prizes, and I will not use the addresses for anything other than mailing the prizes.
