Privacy Policy

I, Nadine Keels, am the site author and administrator of Prismatic Prospects. It is my policy to respect your privacy regarding any information I or the website (via WordPress.com) may collect from you or which you may provide to us, in the circumstances set out below.

Accordingly, I have developed this privacy policy in order for you to understand how I and/or this website collects, uses, communicates, discloses, and otherwise makes use of your personally identifiable information (“Personal Data.”) I will only collect and use your Personal Data where:

  • I have lawful grounds to do so, including to comply with legal obligations;
  • I have legitimate interests in using your Personal Data and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests.

For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation ((EU) 2016/679) (“GDPR”), I, Nadine Keels, am the “data controller.” If you have any questions about this policy or about how I use your Personal Data, please contact me via the Contact Page on this website or the details near the end of this policy.

This policy is effective as of May 21, 2018. I review my privacy practices on an ongoing basis, and as such, I may change this privacy policy from time to time. Please check this page frequently to ensure you are familiar with its current content.

  1. Personal Data I collect via Prismatic Prospects (the “Website”)

Personal Data that you provide

The Website is powered by WordPress.com and uses the Jetpack plugin, owned by Automattic. We only collect Personal Data where you choose to interact with us on the Website in the following ways:

Activity Log

This feature only records activities of a site’s registered users, and the retention duration of activity data will depend on the site’s plan and activity type.

Data Used: To deliver this functionality and record activities around site management, the following information is captured: user email address, user role, user login, user display name, WordPress.com and local user IDs, the activity to be recorded, the WordPress.com-connected site ID of the site on which the activity takes place, the site’s Jetpack version, and the timestamp of the activity. Some activities may also include the actor’s IP address (login attempts, for example) and user agent.

Activity Tracked: Login attempts/actions, post and page update and publish actions, comment/pingback submission and management actions, plugin and theme management actions, widget updates, user management actions, and the modification of other various site settings and options. Retention duration of activity data depends on the site’s plan and activity type.

Data Synced: Successful and failed login attempts, which will include the actor’s IP address and user agent.

Carousel

Image views are only recorded when I have enabled image view stats tracking for this feature via the jetpack_enable_carousel_stats filter.

Data Used: If image view tracking is enabled, the following information is used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code.

Activity Tracked: Image views.

Comment Likes

This feature is only accessible to users logged in to WordPress.com.

Data Used: In order to process a comment like, the following information is used: WordPress.com user ID/username (you must be logged in to use this feature), the local site-specific user ID (if the user is signed in to the site on which the like occurred), and a true/false data point that tells Jetpack if the user liked a specific comment. If you perform a like action from a WordPress.com mobile app, some additional information is used to track the activity: IP address, user agent, timestamp of event, blog ID, browser language, country code, and device info.

Activity Tracked: Comment likes.

Contact Form

Data Used: Akismet is enabled on the Website. The contact form submission data — IP address, user agent, name, email address, website, and message — is submitted to the Akismet service (owned by Automattic) for the sole purpose of spam checking. The actual submission data is stored in the database of the site on which it was submitted and is emailed directly to me, the site author. This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.

Data Synced: Post and post meta data associated with a user’s contact form submission. Via Akismet, the IP address and user agent originally submitted with the comment are synced, as well, as they are stored in post meta.

Gravatar Hovercards

Data Used: This feature will send a hash of the user’s email address (if logged in to the site or WordPress.com — or if they submitted a comment on the site using their email address that is attached to an active Gravatar profile) to the Gravatar service (also owned by Automattic) in order to retrieve their profile image.

Jetpack Comments

Data Used: Commenter’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided via the comment form), timestamp, and IP address. Additionally, a jetpack.wordpress.com IFrame receives the following data: WordPress.com blog ID attached to the site, ID of the post on which the comment is being submitted, commenter’s local user ID (if available), commenter’s local username (if available), commenter’s site URL (if available), MD5 hash of the commenter’s email address (if available), and the comment content. Via Akismet, the following information is sent to the service for the sole purpose of spam checking: commenter’s name, email address, site URL, IP address, and user agent.

Activity Tracked: The comment author’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided during the comment submission) are stored in cookies. Learn more about these cookies.

Data Synced: All data and metadata (see above) associated with comments. This includes the status of the comment and whether or not it was classified as spam by Akismet.

Likes (on posts)

This feature is only accessible to users logged in to WordPress.com.

Data Used: In order to process a post like action, the following information is used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID, WordPress.com username, WordPress.com-connected site ID (on which the post was liked), post ID (of the post that was liked), user agent, timestamp of event, browser language, country code.

Activity Tracked: Post likes.

Mobile Theme

Data Used: A visitor’s preference on viewing the mobile version of a site.

Activity Tracked: A cookie (akm_mobile) is stored for 3.5 days to remember whether or not a visitor of the site wishes to view its mobile version. Learn more about this cookie.

Notifications

This feature is only accessible to registered users of the site who are logged in to WordPress.com.

Data Used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID, WordPress.com username, WordPress.com-connected site ID and URL, Jetpack version, user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code. Some visitor-related information or activity may be sent to me via this feature. This may include: email address, WordPress.com username, site URL, email address, comment content, follow actions, etc.

Activity Tracked: Sending notifications (i.e. when Jetpack sends a notification to a particular user), opening notifications (i.e. when a user opens a notification that they receive), performing an action from within the notification panel (e.g. liking a comment or marking a comment as spam), and clicking on any link from within the notification panel/interface.

Sharing

Data Used: When sharing content via email, the following information is used: sharing party’s name and email address (if the user is logged in, this information will be pulled directly from their account), IP address (for spam checking), user agent (for spam checking), and email body/content. This content will be sent to Akismet so that a spam check can be performed.

Subscriptions

Data Used: To initiate and process subscriptions, the following information is used: subscriber’s email address and the ID of the post or comment (depending on the specific subscription being processed). In the event of a new subscription being initiated, Jetpack also collects some basic server data, including all of the subscribing user’s HTTP request headers, the IP address from which the subscribing user is viewing the page, and the URI which was given in order to access the page (REQUEST_URI and DOCUMENT_URI). This server data used for the exclusive purpose of monitoring and preventing abuse and spam.

Activity Tracked: Functionality cookies are set for a duration of 347 days to remember a visitor’s blog and post subscription choices if, in fact, they have an active subscription.

WordPress.com Secure Sign On

This feature is only accessible to registered users of the site with WordPress.com accounts.

Data Used: User ID (local site and WordPress.com), role (e.g. administrator), email address, username and display name. Additionally, for activity tracking (see below): IP address, WordPress.com user ID, WordPress.com username, WordPress.com-connected site ID and URL, Jetpack version, user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code.

Activity Tracked: The following usage events are recorded: starting the login process, completing the login process, failing the login process, successfully being redirected after login, and failing to be redirected after login. Several functionality cookies are also set, and these are detailed explicitly in Jetpack’s Cookie documentation.

Data Synced: The user ID and role of any user who successfully signed in via this feature.

WordPress.com Stats

Data Used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code. Important: I, the site author and administrator, do not have access to any of this information via this feature. For example, I can see that a specific post has 285 views, but I cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post. Stats logs — containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available) — are retained by Automattic for 28 days and are used for the sole purpose of powering this feature.

Activity Tracked: Post and page views, video plays (if videos are hosted by WordPress.com), outbound link clicks, referring URLs and search engine terms, and country. When this module is enabled, Jetpack also tracks performance on each page load that includes the Javascript file used for tracking stats. This is exclusively for aggregate performance tracking across Jetpack sites in order to make sure that the plugin and code is not causing performance issues. This includes the tracking of page load times and resource loading duration (image files, Javascript files, CSS files, etc.) I, the site administrator, have the ability to force this feature to honor DNT settings of visitors. By default, DNT is currently not honored.

WordPress.com Toolbar

This feature is only accessible to registered users of the site who are also logged in to WordPress.com.

Data Used: Gravatar image URL of the logged-in user in order to display it in the toolbar and the WordPress.com user ID of the logged-in user. Additionally, for activity tracking (detailed below): IP address, WordPress.com user ID, WordPress.com username, WordPress.com-connected site ID and URL, Jetpack version, user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code.

Activity Tracked: Click actions within the toolbar.

Data the Website collects automatically

The Website automatically collects certain information when you visit the site – such as the type of browser and operating system you are using, and the domain name of your Internet service provider. The Website does not link this information with any Personal Data. The Website may also collect data automatically through cookies. Please see the Automattic cookie policy to find out about the types of cookies, why they are used, and how you can adjust your settings to disable cookies.

  1. Sharing of your Personal Data

The Website shares Personal Data as necessary with third parties who provide services or functions on behalf of the Website and who require the information to provide those specific services. These third parties may include social media advertising platforms such as Facebook.

When my blog readers and visitors submit their Personal Data to comment on the Website, subscribe to the Website, or to reach me through the Contact Page, I do not share that information, except in the case of passing on a giveaway winner’s name and email address to a third party who may be offering his/her own giveaway prize through my blog. Giveaway entrants may be given the option of joining a group or email list of mine (e.g., to receive advance review copies of my upcoming books), but those who do not opt-in will not be solicited with further promotional emails from me. The names or nicknames of giveaway winners will be announced on my blog after a giveaway ends, but only as the winners themselves have publicly posted their names or nicknames upon entering the giveaway. I will not share the mailing addresses giveaway winners submit to receive their prizes, and I will not use the addresses for anything other than mailing the prizes.

I won’t share the email addresses of those who sign up for my newsletter, though their email addresses will be automatically transferred to the newsletter platform, MailChimp, for processing. Subscribers are free to opt-out at any time by clicking “unsubscribe from this list” in the footer of any newsletter they receive from me. You can read more about MailChimp’s privacy practices.

  1. Retention periods for use of your Personal Data

I will use and store your Personal Data only for as long as necessary, bearing in mind the uses of your Personal Data as described in this privacy policy and otherwise as communicated to you. I review the Personal Data I hold from time to time and delete any Personal Data which is no longer necessary.

  1. Children

This Website is aimed at adults, and I do not knowingly collect any Personal Data relating to children aged under 15 years old. If you are under the age of 15, please do not provide me with any of your Personal Data, including your email address. The giveaways I hold on my blog are not for children, and giveaway entrants must be at least 18 years old.

  1. Access to and control over your Personal Data

You have legal rights under applicable law in relation to your Personal Data. You can ask the following questions, or take the following actions, at any time by contacting me via the contact information near the end of this policy:

  • see what Personal Data I or the Website holds about you (if any), including why we are holding it and who it could be disclosed to;
  • ask me to change/correct your Personal Data;
  • ask me to delete your Personal Data;
  • object to the processing of your Personal Data;
  • ask me to restrict the processing of your Personal Data;
  • withdraw any consents you have given me to the processing of your Personal Data; and
  • express any concerns you have about third parties’ use of your Personal Data.
  1. Change of purpose

I will only use your Personal Data for the purposes for which I collected it, unless I reasonably consider that I need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. For instance, if you regularly enter giveaways on both my blog and the Faith, Hope, and Book Love group on Facebook, and you submit your email or mailing address to redeem a prize you’ve won in a giveaway, I may keep your information on file and use it for both types of giveaways in the future. If you’d like me to delete your information after each giveaway, please contact me to let me know.
